Ducati Diavel 1260 servicing

2019 to 2022 · 1,262cc Testastretta DVT V-twin · Greenwich, London

Carbon fibre exhaust silencer on a Ducati

Ray Petty Meccanica services and repairs the Ducati Diavel 1260, 1260 S and Lamborghini edition (2019 to 2022) at its independent Ducati workshop in Greenwich, London. The 1260's variable-timing DVT twin still runs on cam belts, and RPM looks after its Desmo services, belt changes and cornering electronics.

About the Diavel 1260

The Diavel 1260 replaced the original Diavel for 2019 and was sold until 2022, before the Diavel V4 took over. It uses the 1,262cc Testastretta DVT twin, whose Desmodromic Variable Timing moves the inlet and exhaust cam timing through the rev range. The steel trellis frame carries the engine as a stressed member, and a new cast single-sided swingarm has the shock mounted on top. Rake and trail were reduced and the wheelbase grew to 1,600mm. Cornering ABS, cornering traction control, wheelie control and launch control are standard. The 1260 S adds fully adjustable Öhlins suspension, an up and down quickshifter and Ducati Multimedia. The 2021 Diavel 1260 Lamborghini, based on the 1260 S, was limited to 630 numbered bikes.

Servicing your Diavel 1260

The DVT engine still drives its cams with toothed belts, and the valve clearance check comes every 30,000 km (about 18,000 miles), with oil services every 15,000 km in between. Belt life is counted in years as well as kilometres, so the belts can be due well before the bike reaches 30,000 km. The variable timing phasers are moved by engine oil, which is one more reason to keep oil changes on time. In a Desmo service RPM sets the opening and closing clearances on all eight valves, fits new belts when they are due, and reads the DVT, ABS and traction control systems with the latest Ducati diagnostic software. Any extra work is agreed with you on the phone first.
