2011 to 2018 · 1,198cc Testastretta 11° V-twin · Greenwich, London

Ray Petty Meccanica services and repairs the original Ducati Diavel 1200 (2011 to 2018, including the Carbon, Strada and Titanium) at its independent Ducati workshop in Greenwich, London. The Diavel's Testastretta 11° runs on cam belts, and RPM's Desmo services cover the belts, the valves and the electronics.

About the Diavel 1200

Ducati unveiled the Diavel at EICMA in November 2010 and built the 1,198cc version from 2011 to 2018. It is a muscle cruiser with a 240/45 rear tyre, a steel trellis frame, a long single-sided swingarm and the Testastretta 11° twin, a retuned 1198 superbike engine with valve overlap cut to 11°, claimed at 162hp. It launched with ride-by-wire, riding modes, ABS, traction control and keyless ignition. The 2015 update, shown in Geneva in March 2014, brought a Dual Spark engine with higher compression, LED lighting and a new headlight. Variants include the Carbon with forged Marchesini wheels, the AMG, Cromo and touring Strada, and the limited Titanium (500 built) and Diesel (666 built).

Servicing your Diavel 1200

The Testastretta 11° drives its cams with toothed rubber belts, and Ducati sets a time limit on them as well as a distance, so they can fall due on a bike that has covered very few miles. Ducati quoted 24,000 km between major services for the early bikes, with the valve clearances checked at each, and RPM will confirm the right schedule for a later Dual Spark bike. Because the throttle, riding modes, ABS and traction control all run through the electronics, RPM reads them with the latest Ducati diagnostic software rather than guessing at faults. The 240 rear tyre and the single-sided swingarm also get a proper look. Plenty of these are sold second-hand, and RPM will inspect one before you buy.
