About Ray Petty Meccanica

Independent Ducati specialist in Greenwich, London, for 35 years

Ray Petty Meccanica (RPM) is an independent Ducati specialist in Greenwich, south east London, run by Ray Petty. The business is built on 35 years of servicing, repairing and restoring Ducatis, and on knowing the classic Italian marques of the 1970s and 80s just as well.

An independent Ducati workshop in Greenwich

Our purpose-built workshop is a stone's throw from the O2 and Canary Wharf, and it's designed around what our customers' bikes need. It's clean, safe and tidy, and the people you talk to are the people who work on your bike.

We're the official London dealer for Rizoma, the Italian maker of high-end motorcycle parts, and the only authorised DAViDA helmet retailer in London. We also represent the makers of the other quality parts we fit.

Prevention first

Servicing is about prevention rather than cure. Most customers see us once a year, and twice if they ride every day. Regular care is what keeps a Ducati reliable.

Knowing where to look

Thirty-five years with Ducatis means we know each model's weak spots and check them before they cause a breakdown.

You decide what's done

We work through your bike from one end to the other. When we know what it needs, we call you to talk it through before any work starts.

Ray Petty, founder of Ray Petty Meccanica

About Ray Petty

Ray has worked with Italian motorcycles for 35 years. "When did I start with bikes? It's so long ago I can hardly remember," he says. "I guess it goes back to being 12 or 13 years old, getting an old scooter going and riding it up and down the garden."

The first Ducati he owned was an 860 GTS. "They were almost mythical when I was younger, in the 70s: super rare, super expensive and super exclusive. So when the chance came to own one, I did. I didn't have a clue what I was letting myself in for. Mostly I never got where I wanted to go, because I couldn't maintain it properly."

Today he runs Ray Petty Meccanica from a purpose-built workshop in Greenwich, set up "to really try and capitalise on what we want to do, which is the restoration and the high-end service and repair of Ducatis."

"I grew up with these motorcycles," he says, "so I know exactly how they should look."

Over that time, looking after London's motorcycle community, he has built a reputation for honesty, mechanical skill and integrity. His eye for detail has made him the mechanic of choice for thousands of riders, on everything from vintage Moto Guzzis to the latest Ducatis.

He also builds. Death Machines of London commissioned Ray to build their Moto Guzzi "Airtail" and Triumph "Up Yours Copper", and the first concours bike RPM ever entered, a 1974 Ducati 750SS, won Best in Class at Salon Privé in 2020. See custom builds.

"A machine can only look beautiful if it performs beautifully."

"If it looks good, it's got to go good."

What riders say about RPM

“Ray and the team are incredibly knowledgeable and possess truly meticulous skills. As Ray said ‘We only do the best.’”
Xinran Z.Google review
“One phone call was enough, and he managed to help me out almost immediately with a new bolt pulled from what can only be described as a magical old-school parts drawer.”
Patrick M.Google review
“Ray took the time to answer 2 calls from me, one before buying a 1977 Moto Guzzi Le Mans Mk1 and the other after purchasing it. [...] FREE advice and turning away business are rare traits these days.”
