Ducati diagnostics and repairs
Faults found properly, then put right, in Greenwich
Ray Petty Meccanica diagnoses and repairs Ducatis and classic Italian motorcycles at its workshop in Greenwich, London. We use the latest Ducati diagnostic software alongside 35 years of hands-on experience, so faults are traced to their cause instead of guessed at.
A fault code tells you where to start looking, not what's wrong. We read the codes, check the bike's live data, then test the parts and wiring involved until we know the cause. Then we call you with what we found and what it will cost to put right, before any work starts.
On older Ducatis and Moto Guzzis without a diagnostic socket, it comes down to experience: knowing the known weak spots of each model and where to look first.
Faults and repairs we deal with
- Warning lights and stored fault codes
- Electrical faults: charging, batteries, regulators, wiring and lighting
- Running problems: misfires, rough idle, flat spots, a bike running on one cylinder
- Clutch and gearbox problems, including gear position calibration
- Fuel injection and throttle body set-up, and carburettors on classic bikes
- Brakes, suspension and steering
- Putting right work done badly elsewhere
Something not right with your Ducati?
Describe what it's doing (the warning light, the noise, when it happens) and we'll take it from there.
Buying a Ducati? Let us look at it first
If you're thinking of buying a Ducati or another Italian motorcycle, contact us before you hand over the money. We're happy to look at it on your behalf, free of charge, and tell you plainly what we think.
Fault first, parts second
We don't fit parts to see if the problem goes away. We confirm the cause, then replace only what's needed.
You decide before we start
Once we know what's wrong, we call you with the options and the price. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.
Classic and modern
From bevel twins to the latest V4s, and classic Moto Guzzi, MV Agusta, Laverda and Benelli models too. Regular servicing helps avoid faults: see Ducati servicing and performance upgrades.
What riders say about RPM
“Managed to diagnose the issue in a matter of minutes and got me going again. [...] The speed in which they worked out what was going on showed their extremely high knowledge of classic Ducatis.”
“If you want a garage you can actually trust with your Ducati, this is the place. I brought my bike in for a gear calibration issue.”
“Ray repaired my 916 after damage caused while it was with another garage, and I honestly couldn’t be happier with the outcome.”
Diagnostics and repair questions
My Ducati has a warning light on. Can I still ride it?
It depends on the light. An oil pressure warning means stop the engine straight away. Others, such as an engine management light, may let you ride gently to the workshop, but don't guess. Call us on 020 8853 8002, tell us what the dash shows, and we'll tell you whether to ride it in.
Will you work on a bike another garage has worked on?
Yes. We often put right work done elsewhere, and we'll tell you honestly what we find.
Do you repair classic Ducatis and Moto Guzzis?
Yes. Classic Ducatis, from 1970s bevel twins onwards, and classic Moto Guzzi, MV Agusta, Laverda and Benelli models are a big part of our work. See Ducati restoration for bigger projects.
Can you check a Ducati before I buy it?
Yes. Call us before you commit and we'll look at it for you, free of charge. See pre-purchase inspections.
We'd love to hear from you
