Plain answers from 35 years with Ducatis
The questions we get asked most in the workshop, answered properly. If yours isn't here, call us on 020 8853 8002.
When should Ducati cam belts be changed?
Ducati cam belts need changing by age as well as mileage. Older belt-driven twins are due every two years or 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. Many later models stretch that to five years, and some modern Ducatis have no belts at all.

Check the service history first: proof that the Desmo valve services and cam belt changes were done on time. Then check how it starts from cold, the electrics, signs of a crash, and the paperwork.

After a winter off, most bikes need a charged battery, fresh fuel and a careful check of tyres, brakes and fluids. After a year or more, expect to clean the fuel system, change the oil and brake fluid, and replace old tyres.
