Ducati Multistrada 1260 servicing

2018 to 2021 · 1,262cc Testastretta DVT V-twin · Greenwich, London

Ducati engine and oil cooler, seen with the bodywork removed

Ray Petty Meccanica services and repairs the Ducati Multistrada 1260, 1260 S, Pikes Peak, S Grand Tour and 1260 Enduro (2018 to 2021) at its independent Ducati workshop in Greenwich, London. Its 1,262cc DVT engine goes 30,000 km between valve checks but still has toothed cam belts, and we keep track of both, along with the bike's electronics.

About the Multistrada 1260

For 2018 the Multistrada took the 1,262cc Testastretta DVT engine first used in the XDiavel, gaining its extra capacity from a longer 71.5 mm stroke. Ducati said 85% of the torque arrives below 3,500 rpm, with a claimed 158hp at the top. The swingarm was lengthened, adding 56 mm to the wheelbase, and the S came with an up-and-down quickshifter as standard. Road versions were the 1260, 1260 S, S D|Air, Pikes Peak and, from 2020, the S Grand Tour. The 1260 Enduro arrived for 2019 with a 30-litre tank, spoked 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, a double-sided swingarm and 185 mm of Skyhook semi-active travel.

Servicing your Multistrada 1260

Ducati's schedule for the 1260 is an oil service every 15,000 km (9,000 miles) and a Desmo valve clearance check every 30,000 km (18,000 miles). Like the 1200 DVT, the engine drives its camshafts with toothed belts, which carry a time limit as well as a mileage limit, so an owner who rides mainly in summer can need belts before the valves are due. Cornering ABS, traction and wheelie control, the quickshifter and the Skyhook suspension are all checked with Ducati diagnostic software. We work through the bike from one end to the other, including chain, brakes and suspension, fit DID chains and genuine Ducati parts, and call before doing anything beyond what was agreed.
