Ray Petty Meccanica offers custom helmet painting at its workshop in Greenwich, London. Each helmet is painted by hand, one at a time, with no templates and no repeat designs, on a DAViDA Speedster v4 we supply or on a helmet you bring us.

At Ray Petty Meccanica, custom work isn't about ticking boxes. It's about building something personal, properly.

Alongside our custom motorcycles, we paint helmets to the same standard as everything else that leaves the workshop. No templates, no shortcuts, no repeats. If you want something off the shelf, this isn't it.

We can paint a helmet you supply, but our preferred base, and the helmet in all our examples, is the DAViDA Speedster v4. It's a modern classic: clean lines, a timeless shape and the perfect canvas. We're London's only authorised DAViDA retailer, so we supply it directly and know the fit, finish and prep are right before any paint goes on.

Finish and detail

Details matter. That's where most custom work falls apart, and where ours stands out. From subtle pinstriping to bold graphic layouts, every line is intentional. Finishes range from deep gloss to period-correct satin, depending on the design and the bike it's paired with.

Nothing leaves the workshop unless it looks right in natural light, not just under studio lamps.

How to order a custom painted helmet

Choose the helmet.Bring your own, or ask us for a DAViDA Speedster v4 in your size.
Send your ideas.Reference images, colours, the bike it's going with, anything that helps.
Tell us your timescale.Lead times depend on the design and the workload. If timing matters, say so early: honesty beats disappointment.

We'll tell you straight whether it's a good fit, and if it is, we'll make something worth wearing.

Helmet painting questions

How long does it take?

It depends on how complex the design is and how busy the workshop is. Tell us when you need it and we'll be honest about whether we can make it.

Can you paint a helmet I already own?

Yes, we can paint a helmet you supply. Our preferred base is the DAViDA Speedster v4, because its shell and finish suit hand painting and we know the result we'll get.

Does painting affect a helmet's safety?

Some paints and solvents can damage certain helmet shells, polycarbonate ones in particular, which is one reason we prefer the DAViDA Speedster v4's glass fibre shell. If your helmet isn't suitable for painting, we'll tell you.

Can you match my bike's paint scheme?

Yes. Many of our helmets are painted to match the owner's bike, like the red, white and green helmets in our gallery. More one-off work on our custom builds page.
