Ducati Streetfighter 848 servicing
2012 to 2015 · 849cc Testastretta 11° V-twin · Greenwich, London
Ray Petty Meccanica services and repairs the Ducati Streetfighter 848 (2012 to 2015) at its independent Ducati workshop in Greenwich, London. It is a toothed-belt engine, so the cam belts are changed on age as well as mileage, and we'll tell you when yours are due.
About the Streetfighter 848
The Streetfighter 848 was launched in late 2011 as a 2012 model, a smaller-capacity partner to the 1098-engined Streetfighter. It uses an 849cc Testastretta 11°, a liquid-cooled 90° V-twin with four Desmodromic valves per cylinder and toothed cam belts. Valve overlap was cut from the 848 EVO's 37° to 11° for stronger mid-range, giving a claimed 132hp. Unlike the bigger Streetfighter it has a wet clutch. The chassis is a steel trellis frame with a single-sided aluminium swingarm, a fully adjustable 43mm Marzocchi fork, a Sachs shock and Brembo four-piston calipers. Eight-level Ducati Traction Control was standard, but ABS was never offered. It was built until 2015, and the Streetfighter V2 took up the idea again for 2022.
Servicing your Streetfighter 848
Bennetts gives the 848 a service every 7,500 miles or once a year, with the Desmo service and valve clearance check at 15,000 miles (24,000 km). The cam belts are the other big item: they are replaced by age as well as mileage, so a low-mileage bike that has stood for a few years can still be due. Well-documented issues are few, but Bennetts warns about rear hub pinch bolts that have been over-tightened and can seize or distort the hub, and a dash that can let water in. We work through the bike from one end to the other, use genuine Ducati and OEM parts, and call you to agree anything extra before we do it.
