Ducati Streetfighter 1098 servicing
2009 to 2013 · 1,099cc Testastretta Evoluzione 90° V-twin · Greenwich, London
Ray Petty Meccanica services and repairs the original Ducati Streetfighter and Streetfighter S (2009 to 2013), often called the Streetfighter 1098, at its independent Ducati workshop in Greenwich, London. It's a belt-driven, dry-clutch superbike engine in a naked bike, and the cam belts need changing on time whatever the mileage.
About the Streetfighter 1098
Ducati's first Streetfighter arrived for 2009, built around the 1098 superbike without its fairing. It uses the 1,099cc Testastretta Evoluzione: a liquid-cooled 90° V-twin with four Desmodromic valves per cylinder, toothed cam belts and a dry clutch, with a claimed 155hp. That is a few horsepower down on the 1098 because of shorter intake tracts. The trellis frame differs from the 1098's at the steering head, and the single-sided swingarm is 35mm longer. The standard bike had Showa suspension and cast wheels. The S added Öhlins suspension, forged Marchesini wheels, carbon fibre parts and eight-level Ducati Traction Control. The standard model was dropped after 2011 and the S carried on to 2013.
Servicing your Streetfighter 1098
Bennetts gives the Streetfighter a minor service every 7,500 miles and a major Desmo service, covering the valve clearances and the cam belts, at 15,000 miles or five years. A bike that has covered few miles still needs its belts changed on age. The same guide lists what to look out for: a flat spot around 3,500rpm, clutch slave cylinders that leak and lift the paint around them, an EXVL fault code from a failed exhaust valve servo, and rear hub pinch bolts that have been over-tightened (Ducati specifies 35Nm). The swingarm's eccentric adjuster should also move freely. If you're thinking of buying one, we'll look over the bike before you buy and tell you what's due.
