Ducati Scrambler Sixty2 servicing
2016 to 2020 · 399cc air-cooled two-valve Desmo V-twin · Greenwich, London
Ray Petty Meccanica services and repairs the Ducati Scrambler Sixty2 (2016 to 2020) at its independent Ducati workshop in Greenwich, London. Small as it is, the 399cc Sixty2 has the same two-valve Desmo heads and toothed cam belts as Ducati's bigger air-cooled twins, and we give it the same full Desmo service.
About the Scrambler Sixty2
Presented at EICMA 2015, the Sixty2 was the smallest bike in the Scrambler range. It uses a 399cc air-cooled Desmo twin with two valves per cylinder and a 72 mm bore, mounted in the 800's steel trellis frame but with its own tubular steel swingarm. Running gear was simpler too: a conventional 41 mm Showa fork, a single 320 mm front disc with a two-piston floating caliper and ABS, and a narrower 160-section rear tyre on a 17-inch wheel, with the usual 18-inch front. The tank holds 14 litres, and the styling follows the 800 closely.
Servicing your Scrambler Sixty2
The Sixty2 is serviced like the bigger air-cooled Scramblers: an oil service, and a Desmo service in which both the opening and the closing clearance of every valve are measured and set. Its cams run on toothed belts, and rubber belts age whether or not the bike is ridden, so a Sixty2 that has stood unused for a few years needs them checked against the date they were last fitted, not just the odometer. Brake fluid, tyres, chain and battery are checked as part of the same visit. If you are buying a used Sixty2, we can look it over and go through its service history with you before you commit.
