Ducati Scrambler 800 servicing
2015 on · 803cc air-cooled two-valve Desmo V-twin · Greenwich, London
Ray Petty Meccanica services and repairs the Ducati Scrambler 800, from the first 2015 Icon, Classic, Urban Enduro and Full Throttle to the next-generation bikes sold since 2023, at its independent Ducati workshop in Greenwich, London. These are simple air-cooled bikes, but their Desmo valves and cam belts still need doing on time, and as Scramblers are a popular used buy, we also look them over for people before they buy.
About the Scrambler 800
Shown at Intermot 2014, the Scrambler went on sale for 2015. Every version uses an 803cc air-cooled Desmo twin with two valves per cylinder, carried over from the Monster, in a steel trellis frame with an 18-inch front wheel. The first generation (2015 to 2022) came in many forms: Icon, Classic, Urban Enduro and Full Throttle at launch, then Flat Track Pro, Café Racer, Desert Sled, Icon Dark and Nightshift among others. A 2019 update added cornering ABS, a hydraulic clutch and a fuel gauge. The next generation of 2023 is about 4 kg lighter, with ride-by-wire, traction control, a colour TFT dash and a clutch with a lighter pull, sold as the Icon, Full Throttle and Nightshift, with an Icon Dark added later.
Servicing your Scrambler 800
Both generations need a Desmo service with the valve clearances checked every 12,000 km (7,500 miles), at the same point as the oil service. The cams run on toothed belts, renewed every 24,000 km (15,000 miles) or five years, whichever comes first, so a bike that only comes out in summer may reach the age limit first. On first-generation bikes it is worth checking that the gearbox doesn't jump out of a gear that isn't fully engaged, looking for corroded fasteners, and checking spokes on Classic and Urban Enduro models. If you are buying a used Scrambler, we can inspect it before you commit.
