Ducati Multistrada 1200 DVT and Enduro servicing
2015 to 2018 · 1,198cc Testastretta DVT V-twin · Greenwich, London
Ray Petty Meccanica services and repairs the Ducati Multistrada 1200 DVT, 1200 S, Pikes Peak and 1200 Enduro (2015 to 2018) at its independent Ducati workshop in Greenwich, London. Variable valve timing did not get rid of the toothed cam belts, so we keep those on schedule alongside the 30,000 km Desmo service and the semi-active suspension on S and Enduro models.
About the Multistrada 1200 DVT and Enduro
The 2015 Multistrada 1200 introduced the Testastretta DVT engine, a 1,198cc liquid-cooled Desmo twin in which hydraulic phasers vary the timing of the inlet and exhaust camshafts, changing valve overlap by up to 90 degrees. Ducati claimed 160hp. A Bosch IMU added cornering ABS and wheelie control, and the S brought Skyhook Evo semi-active suspension, a TFT dash, Brembo Monobloc calipers and LED cornering lights. The Pikes Peak returned in 2016 with Öhlins suspension. The 1200 Enduro, also new for 2016, had a 30-litre tank, spoked 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, 200 mm of semi-active travel and a double-sided swingarm. The Enduro Pro followed in 2017, and the Enduro kept the 1,198cc engine until the 1260 Enduro of 2019.
Servicing your Multistrada 1200 DVT or Enduro
Ducati set the DVT's valve clearance check at 30,000 km (about 18,600 miles), with an oil change every 15,000 km or 12 months, so the Desmo service is a big job that comes round rarely. The toothed cam belts are a separate item, replaced by date as well as distance, and on a bike that does few miles a year they can fall due long before the valves. The Skyhook suspension on S and Enduro models and the IMU-based rider aids are checked with Ducati diagnostic software. Enduros that have been off road also get a close look at spokes, wheel bearings and fork seals. We use genuine Ducati belts, filters and service parts.
