Ducati Multistrada 1200 servicing

2010 to 2014 · 1,198cc Testastretta 11° V-twin · Greenwich, London

Headlight and red front fairing of a Ducati Multistrada

Ray Petty Meccanica services and repairs the Ducati Multistrada 1200 (2010 to 2014), including the S Sport, S Touring, Pikes Peak and Granturismo, at its independent Ducati workshop in Greenwich, London. With belt-driven cams, electronic suspension on the S models and ride-by-wire riding modes, it needs mechanical and electronic attention, and we work on it with the latest Ducati diagnostic software.

About the Multistrada 1200

The Multistrada 1200 replaced the air-cooled 1100 for 2010. Its liquid-cooled 1,198cc Testastretta 11° engine came from Ducati's superbike line, with valve overlap reduced to 11°, hence the name, and the bike introduced ride-by-wire with four riding modes (Sport, Touring, Urban, Enduro) and eight-level traction control. The frame joins a steel trellis to cast aluminium sections, and the swingarm is single-sided. The S Sport and S Touring had Öhlins electronic suspension, with the Touring adding cases, heated grips and a centre stand. The Pikes Peak followed in 2011. For 2013 the engine gained dual spark plugs and secondary air injection, and the S models, now including the Granturismo, moved to Sachs Skyhook semi-active suspension.

Servicing your Multistrada 1200

When the 1200 launched, Ducati doubled the interval between valve clearance checks to 24,000 km (15,000 miles), helped by new valve seat material, so the Desmo service comes round less often than on earlier Ducatis. The cams still run on toothed belts, and Ducati's schedule gives them a time limit as well as a distance, so a low-mileage bike can be due belts well before 24,000 km. S models add electronic suspension (Öhlins to 2012, Skyhook from 2013) as well as ABS and traction control, and we check their settings and fault memory with Ducati diagnostic software. We work through the bike from one end to the other and call you before any extra work is done.
