Ray Petty Meccanica services and repairs the Ducati Monster 1200, 1200 S, 1200 R and 25° Anniversario at its independent Ducati workshop in Greenwich, London. The 1200 combines a Desmo engine with a full electronics package, and RPM handles both: Desmo services and cam belts in the workshop, and the electronics on the latest Ducati diagnostic software.
About the Monster 1200
Ducati unveiled the Monster 1200 and 1200 S at EICMA in November 2013, replacing the air-cooled 1100 EVO with the liquid-cooled 1,198cc Testastretta 11°. Claimed power was 135hp, or 145hp for the S with its Öhlins suspension, and both had ride-by-wire and traction control. The 1200 R, unveiled in September 2015, raised claimed output to 160hp with higher compression and oval throttle bodies, and added Öhlins suspension, a steering damper and forged wheels. The 2017 update brought Euro 4, a slimmer tank, a shorter swingarm, cornering ABS, wheelie control and a new TFT dash, with 150hp and a standard quickshifter on the S. In 2018 the 25° Anniversario, 500 numbered bikes with gold frame and wheels, marked the Monster's 25 years.
Servicing your Monster 1200
The Testastretta 11° is a four-valve Desmo engine with toothed cam belts, but its intervals are much longer than the air-cooled Monsters'. Ducati gives the valve clearance check for the 1200 R and the 25° Anniversario as every 30,000 km (18,000 miles), and Rider reported the R's main service as every 15,000 km (9,000 miles) or 12 months. The belts are replaced by age as well as mileage, so a 1200 that covers few miles still needs them on time; our cam belt guide explains. The electronics, cornering ABS and quickshifter on later bikes are checked with Ducati diagnostic software. As the official London dealer for Rizoma, we can also supply and fit Rizoma parts for your 1200.
