Ray Petty Meccanica services and repairs the Ducati DesertX, DesertX Rally and DesertX Discovery, along with the redesigned 2026 DesertX, at its independent Ducati workshop in Greenwich, London. A DesertX that has been ridden off road comes in with dust, water and knocks a road bike never sees, so we go through the whole bike at each service, not just the engine.

About the DesertX

Shown as a concept at EICMA 2019 and on sale from 2022, the DesertX is Ducati's off-road focused adventure bike, built around a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheel. Up to 2025 it used the 937cc liquid-cooled Testastretta 11° Desmo twin, claimed at 110hp, in a steel trellis frame with long-travel KYB suspension and a 21-litre tank. The DesertX Rally (2024) added a 48 mm closed-cartridge fork, 250 mm front and 240 mm rear travel and an Öhlins steering damper. The Discovery (2025) added heated grips, a touring screen, a centre stand and extra protection. The 2026 DesertX is a new bike: an 890cc V-twin with spring valves and chain-driven cams in an aluminium monocoque frame.

Servicing your DesertX

On the 937cc bikes, Ducati's schedule is an oil service every 15,000 km or 24 months, a Desmo valve check every 30,000 km and new cam belts every 30,000 km or five years, whichever comes first. The 2026 engine has no belts, and Ducati quotes 45,000 km between valve checks, with the oil service still at 15,000 km or two years. Riding off road is hard on chains, sprockets, wheel bearings, spokes and fork seals, so those get a close look whatever the mileage. We fit DID chains and genuine Ducati parts, and call you before doing anything beyond the agreed service.
