Ducati 959 Panigale servicing
2016 to 2019 · 955cc Superquadro 90° V-twin · Greenwich, London
Ray Petty Meccanica services and repairs the Ducati 959 Panigale and 959 Panigale Corse (2016 to 2019) at its independent Ducati workshop in Greenwich, London. Many 959s have lost their heavy Euro 4 exhaust by now, and we check how yours has been set up before we service it.
About the 959 Panigale
The 959 Panigale replaced the 899 for 2016. Ducati kept the 100mm bore and lengthened the stroke from 57.2mm to 60.8mm, taking the Superquadro to 955cc, still liquid-cooled with four Desmodromic valves per cylinder and chain and gear cam drive. Ducati claimed 157hp. To pass Euro 4, European bikes got twin stacked silencers on the right in place of the 899's underslung exhaust; bikes sold outside the EU kept the old layout. The chassis follows the 899: aluminium monocoque, double-sided swingarm, Showa Big Piston Fork, Sachs shock and Brembo M4.32 calipers, with ABS, traction control, Engine Brake Control and a quickshifter. The 959 Panigale Corse (2018) added an Öhlins NIX30 fork and TTX36 shock, titanium Akrapovič silencers and a lithium battery.
Servicing your 959 Panigale
MCN gives the 959 an interim service every 7,500 miles (12,000 km) and a valve clearance check at 15,000 miles (24,000 km). As on every Superquadro, chains and gears drive the cams, so there are no belts to renew on age. The Euro 4 exhaust is heavy, and MCN notes that many owners replace it, sometimes with a remap; if yours has been changed, we check the fuelling and the electronics with the latest Ducati diagnostic software rather than assume it's standard. If you're buying a used 959, we'll inspect it before you commit, checking for a replaced exhaust or a remap along with everything else.
